Does hair grow back thicker? Does it hurt too much? We debunk the 5 myths we hear most often about waxing.
There's a lot of information (and misinformation) out there about waxing. Here we debunk the most common myths we hear every day at the studio.
False. Hair thickness and color are determined by genetics, not by the hair removal method. What actually happens is that with wax, new hair grows in with a naturally fine tip (unlike shaving, which cuts hair flat, leaving a blunt edge that feels coarser as it grows out). Over time, with consistent waxing, many people notice hair growing back sparser and softer.
Partly false. There is some discomfort, especially the first time or in sensitive areas, but it decreases significantly with each session as the follicle weakens. Technique matters a lot too: a properly done application reduces pain significantly. At Wax Studio we use quality wax and fast technique specifically to minimize discomfort.
False. You can absolutely wax during your period with no physical issue. The only real factor is that your skin may be slightly more sensitive those days due to hormonal changes, so discomfort might feel a bit more intense, but there's no actual contraindication.
Half true. It's true that consistent waxing weakens the follicle over time, which can make hair grow back finer and sparser. But that doesn't mean "hair gone forever," nor should you wax before your hair reaches the right length (at least 0.5 cm / a quarter inch). Waxing too often before hair is ready just irritates your skin with no real benefit.
False, and this is the riskiest myth of all. The quality of the wax, the hygiene of the space, and the technician's skill determine whether you get a great result or end up with irritation, ingrown hairs, or even burns. That's why choosing a studio with solid hygiene practices and trained staff matters.
Done correctly, waxing is safe, effective, and delivers results that last for weeks. The key is technique and product quality, not myths that circulate without any real basis.
