When should you wax before your trip? Here's the exact timing and skincare steps to arrive beach-ready with no irritation.
Vacation season is coming up and you want your skin ready before you hit the beach or pool. Here's a timing and care routine so your wax looks (and feels) perfect exactly when you need it.
The most common mistake is waxing the day before a trip. Ideally, you should wax 2 to 3 days before, never the same day. Why? Because your skin needs that window to calm any redness or post-wax sensitivity, especially if you're heading straight into sun exposure.
Exfoliating 2-3 days before your appointment helps remove dead skin cells and helps the wax grip hair more evenly. Avoid exfoliating the same day as your session, since it can leave skin more sensitive to the process.
For wax to work properly, you need at least 0.5 cm (about a grain of rice) of hair growth. If you recently shaved, it's probably not ready. Plan your appointment with this in mind.
After waxing, pores are more open and skin is more sensitive. Direct sun exposure (or tanning beds) during that window can cause dark spots or irritation. That's exactly why the 2-3 day window before your trip works so well: it gives your skin time to recover before sun exposure.
Use a lightweight, fragrance-free moisturizer in the hours after your appointment. Avoid oils or heavily occlusive products the same day, since they can clog freshly worked follicles.
Once your skin has settled, sunscreen on waxed areas (legs, bikini, underarms) helps prevent dark spots and protects skin that's still a bit more sensitive after the process.
Book your appointment 2-3 days before your trip
Exfoliate 2-3 days before your appointment (not the same day)
Make sure your hair is the right length
Avoid direct sun for the first 24-48 hours post-wax
Moisturize with lightweight products
Wear sunscreen every day of your vacation
Follow this routine and you'll arrive at your destination with skin that's ready, no last-minute surprises or irritation. Book your appointment at Wax Studio and get ready for summer with time to spare.
