Wax vs. Threading: Which Is Better for Each Area?

Wax vs. Threading: Which Is Better for Each Area?

Wax Studio TeamAugust 11, 20262 mins read

It's not wax versus threading, it's knowing which one to use where. Here's what works best for brows, bikini, legs and more.

Wax vs. Threading: Which Is Better for Each Area?

One of the questions we hear most at Wax Studio is: "should I go with wax or threading?" The short answer is it depends on the area, the hair type, and your skin sensitivity. Here's the full breakdown so you know exactly what to ask for at your next appointment.

The basic difference

Wax: removes hair from the root across larger surfaces, quickly and evenly. Ideal for bigger areas.

Threading: a precision technique that removes hair strand by strand (or in small groups), without any product touching the skin. Ideal for detail work and delicate areas.

Area by area

Eyebrows

Winner: threading. It gives you millimeter-level control over shape that wax simply can't match. Perfect for corrections and precise design.

Upper lip and chin

Winner: threading. Small area, thin skin, fine hair. Threading avoids irritation and is more precise for peach-fuzz type hair.

Underarms

Winner: wax. A small surface with thicker hair growing in multiple directions; wax lifts it all evenly in seconds.

Legs and arms

Winner: wax. Large areas where wax's speed and even coverage make all the difference. Threading would be impractical here.

Bikini

Winner: wax. Delivers longer-lasting, cleaner results on thicker hair. It also reduces the risk of ingrown hairs when done with the right technique.

Back and chest (men)

Winner: wax. Large surface, dense hair: wax is the most efficient option with better long-term results.

What if I have sensitive skin?

Threading is usually better tolerated since there's no product touching the skin, just friction from the thread. If your skin reacts easily to wax, consider threading for the face and wax only for the body, paired with soothing post-treatment products.

Bottom line

It's not wax versus threading, it's wax and threading working together depending on the area. At Wax Studio we combine both techniques to give you the best result for every part of your routine.

Not sure which technique is right for you? Book your appointment and we'll walk you through it.
